Ouest Wings is a surprisingly small takeout restaurant that has become popular among the Aylmer community for its variety of hot wings! If you are visiting Ono Tacos then my recommendation would be to go with their Steak Tacos which I found just amazing! They also have cow tongue tacos which is something you don’t get to see often at Taco joints. Make sure to have your taco with some of the hot sauces that they have.

I did try their Fish Taco as well but for it was alright and not as impressive as the Steak Taco. Besides Tacos, the Food Truck also has Quesadilla, Burritos, Tortas and Hot Dogs. If you are vegan and don’t like meat, then they do have salad options as well.

While the most popular items at the Maui Grill Food Truck are their Crispy Coconut Shrimp Plate and Chicken Satay, I decided to try out their tacos with coleslaw, lime crema sauce and cilantro. Each order has 3 tacos and If you make a request, you can actually get different types of meat/seafood on your tacos.

I was able to try their Mahi Mahi Paradise, Mahi Fish and their Jump Shrimp tacos, all of which were so delicious. Size of the tacos was decent as well.

If you are looking for a restaurant with stunning views then you should try Kimo’s. Their Fish Tacos were great. My Taco came with a lot of cheese, and felt quite refreshing with the salad and meaty flavor. The Tacos also came with chips/salsa.

Here are some other restaurants that I tried but did not meet my expectations –

Paia Fish Market (Paia) – At Paia, I had their fish and chicken tacos and while the ingredients were fresh, I did not find them not flavorful enough. If you are looking for non-spicy version of tacos then this might be the spot though.

Island Tacos (Haiku) – They had really big tacos but I was left disappointed with the flavors. I think they could have done a lot better job with the Tacos.

Tips To Prepare Your Resume For Canada!

You can increase the chances of getting a job in Canada by increasing the chance of securing an interview! Follow these tips to have a strong resume that lures HR professionals to get in touch with you!

Make it a one-page resume!

Stick to a one-page resume. It’s very rare for a recruiter to go through page one of a resume, so you need to make sure whatever work experience and skills you have on that one page!

If you are not able to fit everything on the page, here are some suggestions that can help you fit everything on one page

  • Make full use of whatever space is available on the resume.
  • Reduce font size – without affecting readability.
  • Focus on having more descriptions for recent jobs.

Have your contact details on your resume!

A lot of people forget to put their contact details on the resume before sending it off to a prospective employer. Make sure you have the following on your resume –

  • Name – Your Full name. It is okay to use your Nickname instead of First Name.
  • Phone – Phone number where the recruiter can contact you. If it’s an international phone number. Make sure to include the country code.
  • Address – Your exact address in the country. If you are living abroad, it’s still fine to keep it and let the recruiter know when they contact you about your intention to move for work.
  • Email – Email address where the recruiter can contact you.

Ideally they should be at the top of your resume.

Remove motivation or personal statement

The recruiter knows you are looking for a job and adding a personal statement is considered unnecessary.

You might add this if you don’t have any experience but if you do have experience in your field then it might be better to highlight your skills, experience rather than the personal statement.

Move Work Experience to the top

If you have work experience, then your education should follow afterwards on your resume. Otherwise, a recruiter having a quick glimpse of your resume might think that you don’t have work experience or are still studying. Even if you are currently studying, you should keep your work experience to the top.

Make sure you emphasize on Job Titles

A common mistake people make is that they put the company name in bold but not what their role was. Employers are usually more interested in what you worked as rather than at what company you were working for.

Having relevant job titles to the position you applied for, can increase your chances of getting an interview with the company.

Optimize your Job Titles

If your job title on the resume was ‘Associate’ or ‘Intern’ that doesn’t really tell anyone what you worked as. But if you have put in a ‘Project Coordinator’ or ‘Industrial Engineering Intern’, the recruiter can get a good idea of what you worked as before. Make sure to update your titles.

Optimize the job description for each job position you work for!

  • Explain what you achieved/delivered during the role that you worked in.
  • It’s great to mention all the skills that you utilized/acquired during the role.
  • Limit job description to 2-5 lines with more lines for the recent job.

Do mention your post-secondary education!

A mistake that a lot of people make when they have international post-secondary education (associates, bachelors, masters, PhD) is that they remove it from their resume! This can reduce value to your prospective employer.

If you don’t have much experience on your resume, you should put up a description on what academic projects you worked on, and also what courses you completed during your education as well!

Additional courses and certifications completed!

If you self-taught yourself something that you think can be of value, do add it to your resume! A lot of the jobs in the market are remote these days and employers are always interested in folks who can learn on their own.

Mention your French-speaking skills

If you are able to converse in French, you should mention that in your resume as Canada has a lot of opportunities for French speakers and even more for folks who are bilingual in French and English!

Don’t forget to spell check!

Before you start sending your resume off to employers, you should make sure to review your resume again and fix any grammatical mistakes that you might have in your resume.

Save your resume in PDF format

Your resume should be in PDF format. Avoid sending it in another format as the recruiter might not have office software on their end to open files in another format.

Costo Sushi Review: Is It Any Good?

The last time I got Sushi from Costco (Gatineau, QC), I wasn’t really impressed with it. There just seemed something wrong with it but I wanted to give it another try since I wanted to make sure that I just didn’t end up getting a wrong batch.

This time I ended up getting the Salmon Deluxe Combo which contained a variety of sushi rolls that I wanted to try. Costco does have smaller and bigger sushi package, so you can choose depending on how many people are going to be eating.

I think the pricing of the Sushi is not that bad when you compared it with other stores like Walmart that sell Sushi. The price came around CDN$14.00 (not including taxes). It would definitely come out to be a bit cheaper than going to a Sushi restaurant in the city.

What’s Included

Here’s what all included in the Salmon Deluxe Sushi Combo!

  • 6 Salmon Avocado Roll

  • 5 Spicy Salmon Rolls

  • Soy sauce

In total, my sushi combo package had 21 rolls which I think is more than sufficient for 2 people to share. The package also comes with Wasabi as well as Soy Sauce so you do not need to buy it separately from the store.

Costco Sushi Review

I ended up trying all the variety of rolls in my Sushi but found them underwhelming. The flavor was somewhat bland, the rice feels quite off and not in a good way.

I think part of the reason might be the fact that at Costco you are buying pre-made sushi from a fridge. The colder temperature makes it overall feel not fresh.

I must say though that the quantity for the price you are paying for Sushi is good.

Coscto Sushi Vs Other Stores

From all the grocery stores that I have visited so far, I think Costco Sushi is the one that has failed to impress me. I have found the Walmart Sushi to be slightly better than Costco Sushi while Sushi from Metro Plus has always exceeded my expectations.

Overall it’s not the worst sushi in my region, and it might be good to head to a proper sushi place rather than going to a store if you want to experience sushi especially for the first time!

Conclusion

While Costco is one of my favorite stores to go to and I love having hot dogs and wings at their Food Court, I don’t think I would be getting my Sushi from the Costco near me. I think I would just prefer to get my sushi from restaurants or other grocery stores in my region.

It’s hard for me to recommend people to try and get Costco Sushi. The price point is good but they do need a lot of improvement in their quality.

Something to note is that the quality of Costco Sushi might vary by location.

This was the first restaurant I tried in Maui and I think it was the best meal I had on the Island. Tin Roof is a Hawaiian fusion restaurant and I had the opportunity to try their Michiko Chicken w/ Garlic noodles and Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Both meals turned out to be delicious and flavorful. The restaurant is also popular for their Pork Belly and Chop Steak.

While Tin Roof is a takeout only restaurant, it is absolutely worth going there and ordering yourself a meal. You won’t be disappointed!

This is one of the few restaurants where I have ordered some food and then enjoyed it so much that I ordered some more. Their pork ribs are just awesome! My order of ribs with mac and cheese was just delicious. The ribs were perfectly seasoned and the flavor just had me ask for more.

Apart from ribs they do have sausages, chicken, sandwiches and even ice cream with chocolate sauce!

After trying a couple of sushi places, I was able to find a sushi restaurant on Maui that actually serves fresh quality sushi! Oku’s Sushi offers kind service and amazing food! My order at Oku’s Sushi was their rainbow roll which is California roll topped with Tuna, Salmon and Avocado.

Duke’s Beach House is a really good location for having breakfast or lunch. My order of Loco Moco was delicious and if it’s your first time having Loco Moco then I would recommend that you have it with Tabasco or Soy Sauce for extra flavoring.

There is a pool located right across since the restaurant is located in a resort area. Though compared to the other restaurants that I ate at, I felt this one was quite windy.

While it’s a chain restaurant, I found their service fast and food quality decent. L&L has a number of locations throughout Hawaii and you can experience what Hawaiian Fast-food tastes like. The serving sizes are good and at a reasonable price though there isn’t much seating at the location. If you are headed there, just go for the takeout option.

Other restaurants that did not make the list –

Waikapu on 30 (Address: 1486 HI-30, Wailuku, HI 96793, United States) – While their Pork Lau Lau w/ Lomi salmon didn’t meet my expectations, It might be a unique Hawaiian dish that might be worth trying. I found it a bit salty for me and since it was my first time, I wasn’t sure if that is always the case. The restaurant also offers hamburger steak, shoyu chickens, baked chicken, bowls, noodles and more.

The Plantation House Maui (Address: 2000 Plantation Club Dr, Lahaina, HI 96761, United States) – The restaurant offers stunning views however I wasn’t impressed with the food. I think they need to offer better items on their menu.

Miso Phat Sushi (Address: 1279 S Kihei Rd #108, Kihei, HI 96753, United States) – I tried out their most popular roll – the Miso Phat Roll but I think for the price paid it seemed to be just above average.

I think MO Country has done a really great job offering itself as the one-stop party destination for country folks in the Midwest! They have one of the largest line dancing floors that I have ever seen, multiple bars located within the club, a mechanical bull to test your cowboy skills, pool tables to play with friends, and even have a large patio with a fireplace.

Getting to this place is a bit of a drive but is absolutely worth it. There are lot of things to do within the same venue – they have beer pong, arcade games, pool tables, and corn hole besides the mechanical bill, and the dance floor! The location also provides dancing lessons if you show up early.

PBR Big Sky plays a mix of country music and other genres. Not the perfect spot for country dancing as the place gets really packed on the weekends and whenever they have a concert/event around Power and Light district. But it’s a nice place to have drinks, do country dancing and also mechanical bull riding.

  • Mix of country and other genres of music.
  • Located in downtown Kansas City region

Other places that might be worth trying –

Howl at the Moon (Address: 1334 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64106, United States) – They do have occasional country nights with live music and might be worth trying. The bar has a very small dance floor though.

Some tips if headed for the first time –

  • Bring cash with you as there might be a cover charge (entry fee)
  • You might be able avoid cover charge by showing up early.
  • Country clothing is not a requirement.

The process of getting a custom license plate in Quebec is pretty easy and straightforward. You don’t even need to go to the SAAQ office to request your personalized license plate.

Requirements For Custom License Plate

To be able to apply for a personalized license plate, the following is required –

  • Must be residing in Quebec.
  • Must either have a car registered in Quebec or planning to buy a car soon.
  • Must have a Visa/Mastercard credit card for payment (AMEX is not accepted)

If you are planning to get a personalized license plate before your purchase –

  • You are required to have a Quebec Driving License.

How Do I Apply For A Personalized License Plate?

You will need to visit SAAQ’s official website and under Vehicle Registration, you will have the option to order a personalized license plate (https://saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/vehicle-registration/personalized-licence-plates)

You would then need to enter your personal information.
If you own a vehicle already, then you will need to provide the vehicle’s registration number.
Otherwise, you will need to enter your driver’s license details.

You will then be able to enter your Desired Character Combination.
Make a note that certain combinations are not allowed.
For example, if the combinations are determined to be abusive, obscene, confusing, trademark, disregard to road safety, then your license plate request might be refused.

Once you have provided all the details, you will be able to complete your order request by making the payment. You must make the payment online using Mastercard or Visa card.

Currently American Express credit cards are not accepted.

Delivery Timeline

The personalized license plates will be delivered using Canada Post with a tracking number and you should receive them in about a month.

In certain cases, your request for custom QC plate might get rejected. For review you will need to submit a letter to SAAQ to review their decision.

Salsa Dancing In Ottawa At Amigos!

While at first glance, Amigos might seem like a typical sports bar, it offers much more than meets the eye. As you step inside, you’ll encounter a dive bar-like atmosphere, and just beside it, there’s a hall that transforms into a lively Salsa dancing spot!

Timings and Ideal Hours

Usually the salsa dancing events happen on a Tuesday however occasionally Amigos might host additional Latin dance events on the weekend.

Dance lessons for the event usually start around 7:30 pm. Their peak time however is around 9-10pm on a Tuesday night and the place can get very crowded!

There are other salsa dancing places in Ottawa to consider if Tuesdays at Amigos doesn’t work for you.

Cover Charges and Entry Fees

There might be a cover involved at this venue. On my last visit, I paid around $10 which seemed reasonable as it had good music and crowd.

Sometimes, when I have showed up late, there wasn’t any cover involved however when I have showed up early I have had to pay an entry fee.

Dance Lessons

The event usually starts with intermediate level dance lessons followed by the social where you are free to practice your moves and dance with people.

I would recommend the dance lessons if you have never danced to salsa before as they can help you later in the night during the social.

The Crowd

Usually for the Salsa Night, the event attracts a mixed crowd. While it’s primarily younger demographic, you would definitely see older crowd as well at the venue.

Don’t be surprised or intimidated to see well experienced people dancing during the event.

Genre of Music

Since they are doing Salsa Nights on Tuesdays, the venue primarily plays Salsa Music. After every few songs, they try to switch to Bachata as well.

During the night, sometimes the DJ might end up playing other genres like Reggaeton and Merengue as well.

If you don’t feel like dancing, you can always head to their dive bar area where they have a bunch of pool tables, slot machines as well as juke box machine!

Make sure to bring some change with you as the pool tables are not free. You might be able to obtain change from the server.

They also have a few TV screens if you are a sports fan!

Unfortunately Amigos doesn’t serve food but you are free to order food from other venues and bring it to the bar. Usually you will see people order food from Domino’s Pizza.

I think this could be a really good place to have a social event! There are a bunch of things to do at the Sports Bar to keep everyone entertained! They also have a decent sized patio as well.
